This project was for the Design Build New Construction of a 13,000 GSF pre-engineered building for use as the installation Hazardous Waste Facility for the National Interagency Biodefense Campus (NIBC) Hazardous Materials Storage Building at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland. The Army, Department of Defense, National Institutes of Health, and Homeland Defense initiatives are to bring new bio-medical and bio-defense medical research laboratories to the Fort Detrick installation in accordance with the National Security/National Homeland Security Council. This Hazardous Materials Storage Building (HMSB) will directly support the National Interagency Bio-defense Campus (NIBC) mission requirements and provide Fort Detrick and its surrounding community with a safer and better controlled method to manage hazardous waste. With the expansion of laboratory space on the installation and an increase in mission requirements, providing a dedicated facility for this operation on the installation will result in better control and processing of hazardous material before it is shipped off-site for final disposal. This capability will produce significant long-term cost savings and provide a higher level of safety to personnel on Fort Detrick and in the surrounding community.
